Tottenham Hotspur star Christian Eriksen has revealed that he is thinking more like a striker after his hat-trick against the Republic of Ireland last night helped Denmark to secure their place at next summer’s World Cup.
Eriksen hit a treble in the 5-1 second leg victory away to Ireland to take his tally for this qualification campaign to 11 and the 25-year-old admitted that he is learning to be more of a finisher than a creator of chances.
As reported by Sky Sports, Eriksen said: “It’s going to mean a lot for my whole career and my whole life.
“I think mentally I’ve grown up.
“I am taking more shots than passing.
“I am thinking more like a striker.”
Eriksen has scored four times in 15 appearances for Tottenham across all competitions so far this season but, buoyed by his exploits with Denmark, he will hope that he can now find the net with even greater regularity at club level.
Capable of thriving whether deployed as a winger or an attacking midfielder, Eriksen is renowned for his creative qualities and is often seen playing sublime passes into the path of the likes of Harry Kane.
However, as he demonstrated for Denmark, Eriksen is certainly capable of finding the net himself, while he poses a significant threat from set-pieces.
Eriksen will certainly be on a high going into Tottenham’s next game, which sees them face rivals Arsenal away on Saturday in an eagerly-anticipated encounter.
