Christian Eriksen and Moussa Sissoko both started as Tottenham Hotspur beat Everton.
Christian Eriksen has praised the ability of Tottenham teammate Moussa Sissoko and revealed that he understands ‘how annoying that is’ when he ‘keeps running’ at opposition players.
Sissoko, who joined Spurs in 2016 from then-relegated Newcastle United, initially struggled to maintain a place in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI.
But this season, the France international has started 11 our of Spurs’ 18 Premier League matches, including their 6-2 win at Everton on Sunday afternoon.
After the game, working as a pundit for Match of the Day 2, Jermaine Jenas asked Eriksen about the recent performances of the once-criticised player.
“Very [delighted for how he is playing],” Eriksen told BBC’s Match of the Day 2 programme. “The system suits him. He can run off people, he can defend, he can tackle and he can play with the ball. He can do the stuff.
“He is exceptional. Sometimes he gets the ball and just runs at people. And I know how annoying that is as a defender or midfielder. You have a player against you that is just going to keep running out you. He’s a confident guy.”
At Goodison Park, Sissoko played 83 minutes for his side as they put six past Everton to move within two points of second-placed Manchester City in the table.
Throughout this campaign, Pochettino has deployed Sissoko on the right-hand side of attack and, at times, played him in a more defensive role in the middle of the park.
According to Transfermarkt, Sissoko started only 15 league games last season, but from his 13 encounters during this campaign, he has already been named in the starting XI on 11 occasions.
The Frenchman will be looking to maintain that run when Tottenham host Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth on Boxing Day.
