Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen has told the club’s official website that it was vital for the club to bounce back after their defeat to Chelsea, and jokingly described his first goal in the thrashing of Swansea City as one of his best for the club
Spurs suffered a first league defeat of the season at Stamford Bridge last weekend, but responded superbly by thrashing the hapless Swans at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
The hosts were already 3-0 up when Eriksen turned the ball home in less than convincing fashion as he went in with opposing defender Jordi Amat for a rebound.
The Dane later added a second in injury time to make it three goals in his last two games.
Eriksen was delighted with the way his side bounced back from their disappointment against Chelsea, but gave a tongue-in-cheek appraisal of the first of his two goals.
He told the club’s website: “I think it’s straight in to the top three of the best goals I’ve scored for Spurs! It was a smart jump, I closed my eyes and luckily, it went in! I put my head to the side to make sure I didn’t get kicked in the head and made sure he hit me with the ball!
“Chelsea was a nice goal but you don’t get any feeling out of it, this time we get the three points and two goals for me, so we’re all happy. We had to bounce back and we did that in a very good way. At Chelsea the first half was very good, the best we’ve played in a while, but we still ended up losing.
“Of course, you do anything to bounce back and we did that. We played well, we stretched them out, had chances in the first half and even more in the second half and we kept going. It was a good day.”
Spurs’ victory leaves them just three points behind fourth-placed Manchester City ahead of their trip to Manchester United next weekend.
