Christian Eriksen heaps praise on Hugo Lloris for providing Tottenham Hotspur with ‘extra confidence’

Christian Eriksen and Hugo Lloris played a big part as Tottenham Hotspur recorded a valuable win over Leicester City.

Christian Eriksen has lauded Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris for providing the team with ‘extra confidence’ during their 3-1 win over Leicester City on Sunday afternoon at Wembley.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were leading the encounter 1-0 when the away team were awarded a penalty when referee Michael Olivier adjudged that Jan Vertonghen had fouled James Maddison in the area.

As the penalty was given, Claude Puel was bringing on Jamie Vardy from the substitutes bench, with the former England man seeing his penalty saved by Lloris in between the sticks – minutes later Eriksen doubled his side’s lead.

After the match, during his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Eriksen gave an honourable mention to Lloris, who pulled off a number of vital saves on top of his penalty stop.

“I think we can really say that he did save us a few times,” Eriksen told Sky Sports PL on 10/02/2019. “We were lucky in that way. Keeping out a penalty that gives you extra confidence and you feel that inside the stadium.

“The game really turned after that. It was very good timing and we are happy for Hugo.”

In the match itself, Davison Sanchez opened the scoring after 33 minutes from close range in what was a pretty open first-half of action.

Then one of the crucial periods of the game occurred when Vardy saw his penalty brilliantly saved by Lloris on the hour mark before Eriksen netted a brilliant long-range effort.

Vardy did pull one back as the Foxes pushed for an equaliser, Lloris then came to his side’s rescue again when he prevented winger Harvey Barnes from finding the back of the net from close range – Heung-min Son ensured the points were in the bag in stoppage time.

Nonetheless, over the course of this season, Lloris has played 26 matches in all competitions for his side, conceding 26 goals and helping them secure 10 clean sheets in the process.
