Tottenham Hotspur dropped three vital points against Southampton on Saturday.
Tottenham ace Christian Eriksen spoke to reporters after his side’s disappointing defeat to Southampton on Saturday, and shared the main reason why they lost the game at St Mary’s, as quoted by the club’s official website.
Spurs have been in woeful form domestically over the past few weeks, taking just one point from their last four Premier League games, and their place inside the top four is now very much under threat.
The Lilywhites are just one point ahead of fourth placed Arsenal, and a further two in front of fifth placed Manchester United.
Tottenham’s form in Europe has sort of papered over the cracks in a way, as Mauricio Pochettino’s men continue to struggle in the league.
The north London outfit were really poor against Southampton on Saturday, especially during the second-half, and Eriksen told reporters why his side lost the game, as quoted by the club’s official website:
“They went to press a bit more, we dropped a bit, played more long balls than we did in the first half and never really got control of what was going on. That’s why we lost compared to the first half.”
Things don’t get any easier for Tottenham, with a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool next up on the agenda, and they quite simply must not lose that game, if they are to maintain their place inside the top four.
Pochettino’s men have three weeks to wait until that game, and that will be incredibly frustrating for them.
