Christian Eriksen comments on his battle with Gylfi Sigurdsson for assist king

The Tottenham Hotspur playmaker is tied with the former Spurs man on 10 assists.

Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen has been discussing his hunt for the assist king mantle in the Premier League this season, which is boiling down to a battle with former Spurs midfielder Gylfi Sigurdssson.

Both Eriksen and the Swansea City midfielder are currently on 10 assists for the season, one ahead of Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.

Eriksen was asked about his assist form, and according to Ekstra Bladet, this was his response:

“Top goalscorer and (top) assists often go together, but I will not tell you what my goal is.”

The Dane has been in brilliant form this season as Spurs battle for the Premier League title. Meanwhile, Sigurdsson is helping Swansea in their fight for Premier League survival.

Of course, Tottenham could have had both playing for them.

Sigurdsson joined Tottenham from German side Hoffenheim in 2012. His time at Spurs was mixed. He spent two seasons at the club and in his first campaign at Spurs played 50 times and scored seven goals.

But his first-team opportunities were often limited at Spurs and after two seasons he was allowed to leave, returning to former loan club Swansea City.

Tottenham fans will of course argue that there would never be room in the same team for both players. But given a choice? It would be close between the Dane and the Icelander.
