Christian Eriksen’s collapse during Denmark’s friendly against Ukraine has understandably caused huge concern, with the match called off after he went down in the second half.
The Denmark midfielder was treated quickly by medical staff before being taken to hospital for further checks. Thankfully, the early updates sound far more positive than the terrifying Euro 2020 incident, when Eriksen suffered a cardiac arrest against Finland.
Given that history, any fresh medical scare involving Eriksen is always going to feel especially worrying. But the first public messages from Denmark have at least offered reassurance.

Positive updates on Christian Eriksen after collapse during Denmark v Ukraine
According to Sky News, Denmark’s match against Ukraine was abandoned after Eriksen collapsed on the pitch and received medical attention.
The Danish Football Association said: “Christian Eriksen is conscious and doing well under the circumstances. The match has been called off.”
Back in 2021, Eriksen needed CPR and a defibrillator after suffering a cardiac arrest during Denmark’s Euro 2020 opener. This time, the early information suggests he regained consciousness quickly.
Denmark team doctor Morten Boesen also offered a more detailed update, saying: “Christian walked off the field on his own. As I see it, the pacemaker is working as it should.
“He was briefly unconscious but regained consciousness very quickly, and we were quickly in contact with him. He will now undergo further tests at the hospital to determine what caused the incident. We are in close contact with him and the doctors at the hospital.
“But Christian is doing well, and he asked me to send his regards to all the players and tell them that he was okay.”
That will come as a relief to supporters, even if the concern will not fully disappear until further tests are completed. Eriksen’s previous collapse was a moment that rocked the footballing world. We have already covered what happened last time Eriksen collapsed.
Denmark are not due to play at this summer’s World Cup after failing to qualify, so there are no thoughts on the football right now. The only thing that matters is Eriksen’s health. Hopefully, he will be well enough to represent his country again when the time is right.
