Tottenham Hotspur edged past Watford in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday.

Tottenham Hotspur are into the next round of the Carabao Cup after edging their way past Watford at Stadium MK on Wednesday night.
With Wembley unavailable and their new home still not ready, Spurs had to take their Carabao Cup tie to Milton Keynes Dons’ home of Stadium MK.
Having lost to Watford in the Premier League last month, Spurs will have been keen on revenge against the Hornets, though both teams fielded sides barely recognisable from their Premier League teams.
After a tight first half, Watford took the lead when Isaac Success smashed home Kiko Femenia’s pass, only for Dele Alli to convert from the penalty spot in his home town after being fouled by Christian Kabasele, who was sent off for his challenge.
Just moments later, a rapid breakaway saw Erik Lamela dink Spurs into the lead, but they couldn’t hang on as former Tottenham midfielder Etienne Capoue’s shot was deflected into the net past Paulo Gazzaniga.
Spurs then sneaked through on penalties, as Gazzaniga saved efforts from Capoue and Domingos Quina, allowing Alli to step up and score the winning spot kick to send Spurs through to the next round.

Christian Eriksen then took to Twitter to applaud goalkeeper Gazzaniga for saving two penalties, with the Argentinian adding that it was an ‘amazing night’ as he made just his third appearance for the club.
Toby Alderweireld, Alli, Harry Kane, Victor Wanyama, Moussa Sissoko and Fernando Llorente also took to Twitter in order celebrate the win, with Spurs in high spirits after sneaking their win.
