Crystal Palace are reportedly ready to sell Christian Benteke this summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Crystal Palace are ready to cash in on striker Christian Benteke this summer after a frustrating season in front of goal.
Benteke, 27, was seen as a major coup for Palace when he signed from Liverpool back in the summer of 2016, even though he struggled with the Reds.
The Belgian hitman scored 17 times last season, helping fire Palace to safety, but this has been a torrid campaign for the giant ex-Aston Villa goalscorer.
With just two goals in 27 outings, and no goal in his last eight, Benteke has frustrated many this term – and the Daily Mail now report that Palace are ready to cash in this summer.
At £120,000-a-week, Palace are unsurprisingly willing to let Benteke go, but Everton should steer well clear of renewing their interest from last summer.
As reported by Sky Sports, Everton and then-manager Ronald Koeman wanted to bring Benteke back to Merseyside in a big-money deal, but Palace stood firm and kept their striker at Selhurst Park.
Everton may well need a striker despite splashing the cash on Cenk Tosun in January, and current boss Sam Allardyce – who remains under pressure – may be tempted by a move given that he worked with Benteke to great effect at Palace.
Yet having looked cumbersome all season and profligate in front of goal, Benteke should not be a target for Everton this summer, and they should resist any temptation to return for Benteke.
