Hammers goalkeeping coach Chris Woods sat down for an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, and raved about the impact Joe Hart has had on the team, since making his summer switch from Manchester City on a season long loan.

The 30-year-old has struggled to live up to his reputation during his time at West Ham, but that has a lot to do with the fact that he has one of the Premier League’s worst defences sitting in front of him, week-in, week-out.

Hart has become renowned for his vociferous nature during his time in the game, and the east Londoners need his leadership skills now more than ever, as they face a genuine relegation battle.

Woods though, believes that the England international is beyond reproach, labelling him as a vital member of the Hammers squad, when speaking exclusively to WHUFC.com:

Joe has an aura about him and he portrays that in his talking on and off the pitch and he is a vital member of the team. We need to start improving our results and start doing that with clean sheets and, to do that, we have to defend as a team, working from the front and ending with Joe in goal.”

West Ham face a crucial game tomorrow night, when they make their way to Merseyside to take on Everton, and a win could lift them above the Toffees in the table.

That will be no easy feat, however, with David Unsworth’s men desperately in need of all three points themselves, and Hart will have to be at his very best, if the Hammers are to return to east London with maximum points.
