The Leeds United player is in fine form and could soon average a goal every other game for the club.
Leeds United striker Chris Wood has come in for plenty of criticism from a section of the club’s fans for much of his time at the club, but his recent upturn in form has eased the pressure and gone some way to proving the doubters wrong.
The New Zealand international has now scored seven goals in 12 matches for Leeds this season, including five in 10 league games, and while there will always be fans who feel the 24-year-old is too wasteful in front of goal he is winning many more over with his teamwork and improved form.
In contrast to the likes or Robbie Fowler and Robbie Keane – two high profile names to pull on the Leeds shirt in the past – Wood is holding his own, with 20 goals in 49 matches to date.
Fowler managed 14 goals in 30 matches for Leeds while Keane netted 15 times in 53 matches for the Whites.
If Wood continues in form, he should soon be averaging a goal every other game, which would be better than both men and up there with the best in the second tier.
Whether Wood is ultimately the player to score the goals in the Premier League, should Leeds get there, is another question entirely. But this season he is proving he is effective in the Championship and could get better as his confidence increases.
