Leeds United striker Chris Wood has been linked with moves away from Elland Road in the summer transfer window.

Leeds United striker Chris Wood has been quoted as saying by The Yorkshire Evening Post that he and his teammates want to finish in the top six of the Championship this season.

The West Yorkshire outfit narrowly failed to clinch a playoff spot during the 2016-17 campaign, and Wood is determined not to be disappointed again.

“The new gaffer has come in and said we want to get promoted this year and we want to be in that top six, definitely,” The Yorkshire Evening Post quotes Wood as saying.

“We have a lot of hard work to get there and build on last season but we have the squad here that can do that.”

A Leeds player stating that the club want to finish in the top six of the Championship this season should not come as a surprise to anyone.

After all, the Whites have been trying to get back into the top flight of English football since 2004 when they went out of the Premier League.

However, Wood’s comments are significant in light of recent speculation over his future at Leeds.

According to a report in The Birmingham Mail, West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing the New Zealand international this summer, while The Yorkshire Post reported last week that Leeds had turned down an offer of £12 million plus add-ons from Burnley for the striker.

The former Leicester City and West Brom striker’s aforementioned comments suggest that he plans to stick around Leeds for the 2017-18 campaign, and this can only be pleasing to the fans.

Wood is one of the best strikers in the Championship and will be a key player for Leeds in their quest to clinch a playoff spot this season.

The 25-year-old scored scored 13 goals and provided four assists in the Championship in 2015-16, and scored 27 goals and provided four assists in the league last season.
