Leeds United striker Chris Wood has just come off the back of an incredible season with the club. He scored 30 goals for Leeds, who came up just short in their hunt for Premier League football.

But his season is not yet over. He is on international duty with New Zealand, who will be competing at this summer’s Confederations Cup in Russia.

Wood will captain the side in the absence of injured West Ham captain Winston Reid and he is clearly fired up for the competition.

Speaking to Voxy this week he has made it clear that he believes his nation can cause a shock at the tournament in Russia:

“That doesn’t bother us one bit [if people don’t expect much from us]. People write us off. They can say what they want to say about us but the boys in here and the staff know that we are a good team and we will turn some heads at this tournament.

“We are hardworking, we will put everything we have got. We wear our heart on our sleeve and we will work hard for each other. We are brothers and no matter what we will work for each other.”

First up he will be trying to guide the Kiwis to a win v Belarus in a friendly fixture this evening.

Leeds fans will however be fearful of him having too good a tournament in Russia. His 30-goal campaign last season has already caught the eye of potential buyers. If he can inspire New Zealand to a famous tournament this summer, on the back of a 30-goal campaign, then there will be plenty of interested parties snooping around to try and secure his signature.
