Leeds United host Ipswich Town on Saturday as Garry Monk’s side aim for a fourth successive win in all competitions.
The Whites made it three on the spin yesterday as Chris Wood’s 85th-minute tap-in proved enough to beat Blackburn Rovers and help Leeds move into the fourth round of the League Cup.
This is undoubtedly the most fruitful time of Monk’s short reign as United boss as far as results go, following an up-and-down first five weeks or so.
But confidence certainly appears to be growing with each and every victory, and this was reflected in Wood’s post-match comments to LUTV on Tuesday night.
Ipswich are two points above Leeds in the Championship table, having lost two less games than Monk and co.
But the 24-year-old says he and his team-mates will give Town a “right go” in comments which perhaps epitomise the growing belief in and around the Leeds squad.
“They [Ipswich] always work hard. They’re a big, strong physical team, but I think we go into the game full of confidence,” he told LUTV.
“We’ll step up what we did today to be ready for Saturday, and we’ll give them a right go.”
Wood, with three goals in his last three games, has to be one of the first names on Monk’s team sheet for Saturday.
The New Zealand striker has six goals in 10 games from all competitions, and whether Leeds can prolong their purple patch very much depends on if Wood is at the races or not.
Ipswich have conceded seven times all season – only five sides, including top-of-the-table Huddersfield, have shipped less – so Wood will need to be sharp.
