The Sheffield United manager takes his side to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.

The Sheffield United manager, Chris Wilder, has suggested that his side once had a mole within the Tottenham Hotspur camp.

Wilder takes his sixth-placed Sheffield United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, where Spurs will be trying again to kickstart what has been a disappointing campaign so far.

Tottenham’s run has brought pressure upon his opposite number, Mauricio Pochettino, who led the London club to the Champions League final last season.

But speaking to BBC Radio Sheffield on Thursday, Wilder insisted that Saturday’s opponents continue to boast an ‘unbelievable’ group of players – some of whom he would deem ‘world class’.

And, it would appear, he should know.

“When you scratch beneath the surface, what you’ve got is one of the world’s top managers coaching and managing an unbelievable group of players,” he said.

“I’ve always had an admiration for what Tottenham have done in terms of the work that they do on the training ground. We had an insight to that a couple of years ago – I won’t tell you where from.

“But I have a lot of admiration in terms of how they work their players, individually, and as a group. The way they set up, they have got an identity, whatever system they play.

“I like the way they mix the systems up as well. They’ve played three centre-halves, they’ve played diamond, they’ve played all different systems.

“But I think they’ve got in the individuals they’ve got – world-class individuals – they’ve really got a collective group (where) one result will get them up and running or get them going because they can’t fail with the amount of quality that they’ve got.”

Remarkably, Sheffield United have yet to lose an away league game all season and boast the Premier League’s tightest defence, alongside Manchester City.

Tottenham require a winning margin of at least two goals in order to surpass the Blades in the standings.
