The Queens Park Rangers star is said to have been a target for several clubs including Sheffield United.
Sheffield United did make a bid for Luke Freeman but had it turned down by Queens Park Rangers, Chris Wilder has told the BBC.
United are one of the clubs linked with the QPR attacking midfielder, who is said to have had offers from Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough on Thursday.
But Freeman has remained put, with Wilder admitting: “(United’s bid) was way short of their valuation.”
The 50-year-old did not state whether the Blades plan to return for Freeman before the August 31st deadline for loans, but is confident that up to to two new faces will arrive at Bramall Lane early next week, having allowed Lee Evans to join Wigan on Friday.
“We’ve made a profit on Lee Evans, he goes in January,” added Wilder. “I have got somebody else lined up to come in and that’s just part of the process sometimes – you have to look around and see what you can do. And one of the biggest factors is obviously the return of Paul Coutts and how he’s recovered from that horrific injury.”
He continued: “We’ll put that profit towards getting a player that I think makes us a better team. That’s the decision I made. I took it to the board, they accepted it, and we wish Lee all the best.
“We are in the process of bringing a couple of players in. Unfortunately we’ve not managed to beat the clock – it was a bit crackers yesterday because obviously that one had to go through to allow us to do a couple of other bits and pieces – so they won’t be involved tomorrow.
“But I’m very, very confident that one/two will be in the building for Monday, hopefully involved Tuesday, if not definitely the weekend for the next home game.”
Wilder went on to state that one player is due to arrive on a loan-to-permanent transfer, with another coming in with a view to a permanent deal in January.
Meanwhile, some Blades fans are speculating that one of Wilder’s targets could be Oliver Norwood, the Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder.
Norwood was part of the Fulham side that won promotion to the Premier League last season, a year after he had helped Brighton to do likewise.
According to the Argus, the 27-year-old is likely to join a mystery club that is neither Leeds United nor Hull City – each of whom were linked with him this week.
