The former Sheffield United loanee was struck down playing for Leeds United’s Under-23s.
The Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has told the BBC that he, along with several of his players and staff, has spoken to Jamal Blackman after the goalkeeper suffered a broken leg while on loan to Leeds United.
Blackman spent last season borrowed by Sheffield United from Chelsea, before Leeds engineered an identical deal ahead of the current campaign.
But almost on the eve of his first-team breakthrough, the 25-year-old fractured his tibia in action for the Whites’ Under-23s.
And when the subject of Blackman cropped up, Wilder revealed: “Our boys have been in contact with him, I’ve been in contact with Jamal – Darren Ward who worked closely with him…
“He was a great kid to work with, he did fantastically well for us, and it’s really disappointing for him because he was a popular player in our changing room, just as much as he was or is in theirs.
“I’m delighted that you brought that up. He’s got a really good career ahead of him and it’s really important first and foremost that he gets himself back onto the football pitch and his health’s good.
“We wish Jam all the best I know there’s been a lot of contact between our boys and Jamal as well.”
Sheffield United welcome Leeds to Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime, where a win will be enough for the fifth-placed side to leapfrog their rivals from up the M1, who currently sit second in the standings.
The Blades did the double in this fixture last season, winning both of those games by a 2-1 scoreline.
