Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday and Sheffield United are aiming for promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season, and all three Yorkshire clubs are in action in the Championship this weekend.

Wednesday will take on Leeds away from home at Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday evening.

As for United, the Blades will lock horns with Millwall at Bramall Lane in the league on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds are second in the Championship table at the moment with 79 points from 41 points, a point clear of third-placed Sheffield United.

Wednesday are out of the running for automatic promotion to the Premier League at the end of the season, but the Owls can certainly clinch a place in the playoffs.

Steve Bruce’s side are 10th in the Championship table at the moment with 59 points from 41 matches, six points behind sixth-placed Bristol City, who have played 40 games.

A win for Wednesday against Leeds will suit United just fine, especially if they pick up all three points against Millwall, and Blades’ fans will be cheering on their bitter city rivals.

United manager Chris Wilder has given his take on the situation, and while praising Wednesday, he has suggested that the Owls could win against Leeds.

Wilder told The Yorkshire Post: “Listen, there is enough personal pride in this division. First and foremost, they (Wednesday) have a group of players who should be in a lot higher position over the past season-and-a-half with the ability they have got.

“They have got an experienced manager who has organised and sorted them out and it is no surprise for me in a professional capacity that they have gone on and won games of football.

“They are a tough proposition to play now. They are expected to go well and I would not be surprised if they got a result there. It is a tough game and Yorkshire derby.”
