Newcastle United striker Salomon Rondon is on loan at St James’ Park from Championship side West Bromwich Albion and is reportedly attracting interest from Everton.
Chris Waddle has warned Newcastle United that ‘two or three’ clubs will want to sign striker Salomon Rondon in the summer amid reported interest from Everton.
The 29-year-old moved to St James’ Park last summer after the North East club opted to sign him on a season-long loan from relegated West Brom.
The Daily Star recently claimed that Newcastle want to keep Rondon, but Premier League rivals Everton are also interested in his services, with the player available at £16 million.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (06/04/2019 at 15:20 pm), Waddle shared his thoughts on Rondon and why clubs are interested in him.
On Rondon never previously hitting double figures in the Premier League: “No, I think people like his presence and what he gives to the team,” Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I don’t think he is an out-and-out goalscorer.
“I think the problem with Newcastle is aswell they’ll have a few more clubs around him. Not just Newcastle wanting to sign him, but two or three, maybe more are interested in signing him at that price.”
There are five games in the Premier League season remaining and Rondon is one goal shy of hitting double figures in England’s top-flight for the first time in his career.
In all competitions this season, he has struck 10 goals and supplied five assists for the club [transfermarkt], but he failed to make an impact during their 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace at the weekend.
It’s highly likely that Rondon will hit double figures in the league and with it keep Rafa Benitez’s side in the Premier League, but it remains to be seen where his future lies.
His parent club, West Brom are sitting in the play-off places in the Championship and they are still in with a chance of making a return to the promised land.
