The former Marseille man was speaking about the Frenchman’s desire to join l’OM.
Chris Waddle has slammed West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet as the French international continues his attempt to force through a move to his former club Marseille.
Waddle himself played at Marseille for three years and is considered a cult icon at the Stade Velodrome.
But even the thought of Payet moving to his former club has not softened his stance on the player’s apparent desire to exit the club.
West Ham’s Dimitri Payet
He told The Sun he felt Payet’s behaviour in recent weeks at West Ham has been ‘pathetic’ and pulled no punches on the subject:
“Foreign players come to England only for the money. I don’t believe they even like English football.
“To Payet, it was just a transfer to West Ham and London. He wasn’t an Englishman thinking, ‘when I pack in, I’m going to live in London for the rest of my life because I love it’.
“Now Payet wants to leave and he just downs tools — how pathetic is that? Payet is calling the shots and it’s wrong.”
The French international has seemingly demanded a transfer from West Ham, with a return to Marseille his sole purpose.

However, West Ham have decided to play hard ball over the move and are seemingly not willing to accept any bids for the player this month unless it reaches their asking price for the player.
The latest reports from The Sun suggest that West Ham want £30 million for Payet, and that Marseille’s latest offer was only £22 million.
It is looking like becoming the transfer that defines this window, but West Ham fans will just want it sorted either way by the end of the month.
