Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his ankle.
Chris Waddle has honestly stated that he doesn’t think that Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente can do the job in stepping up for the club following Harry Kane’s injury.
Spurs confirmed on their official Twitter account on Tuesday that Kane had injured ligaments in his ankle and is set to be out of action until early March.
Following that news, former White Hart Lane favourite Waddle commented on who could fill Kane’s shoes as Mauricio Pochettino’s side have a number of big games coming up.
“Llorente you would think would come in,” Waddle told BBC Sport. “But let’s be honest, he’s not as mobile as Harry Kane. Does he suit the way Tottenham play?
“He’s probably better off going with Lucas Moura down the middle, with Dele Alli just behind him. It’s a massive loss [Kane’s injury].”
In the time Kane is expected to be out of action, he will miss Tottenham’s League Cup semi-final second leg encounter against Chelsea, key Champions League matches and numerous Premier League games.
Versatile attacker Heung-min Son would be able to fill that forward role in normal circumstances, but he is now on international duty with South Korea, playing in the Asia Cup.
Over the course of the season, Llorente has played 13 matches in all competitions, scoring four goals as he is yet to find the back of the net in the Premier League.
Pochettino’s side make the short trip to Fulham on Sunday as they will be looking to bounce back from their defeat against Manchester United last time out.
