Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool had players representing them for England during the international break.
Chris Waddle has criticised Tottenham’s Danny Rose and Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson for picking up yellow cards during England’s 5-1 win over Montenegro on Monday night.
The BBC Sport pundit stated that midfielder Henderson was ‘silly’ to get involved as the Montenegro players tried to wind him up towards the end of the game. Added with that, Roses’ tackle, which happened moments after Henderson’s booking, was just ‘stupidity’.
Despite that, Gareth Southgate’s side did their talking on the field of play. Centre-back Michael Keane equalised after 30 minutes, with Ross Barkley netting a brace while Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling also got on the scoresheet.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 LIve after England’s Euro 2020 qualifier clash (25/03/2019 at 10:05 pm), Waddle believes Henderson and Rose could have ‘done without’ their yellow cards.
“I think the game won, it’s 5-1,” Waddle told 5 Live Sport. “You can verbally say to people 5-1, they’ll understand that. But Jordan Henderson got involved for silly reasons. Danny Roses’ tackle was really stupidity in my eyes. It’s two yellow cards they could have done without.”
During England’s two Euro 2020 qualifiers, they dispatched the Czech Republic by hitting five past them and did the same to Montenegro.
The Three Lions produced some stunning attacking displays with the likes of Sterling, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Kane, Jadon Sancho and Barkley standing out.
Nonetheless, players will now return to their respective clubs, with Rose and Hendeson set to come up against each other on Sunday afternoon at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are sitting top of the Premier League table, whilst Mauricio Pochettino’s quest to finish in the Champions League places has taken a little kick in recent weeks.
