Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to bounce back from Tuesday night’s defeat to Bayern Munich when they take on Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday.

BBC Sport pundit Chris Waddle has claimed that Serge Aurier doesn’t want to be at Tottenham Hotspur as he seemingly criticised his former club for not letting him go this summer.

Aurier is now Spurs’ senior right-back after they allowed Kieran Trippier to leave the club in the summer, but they opted against replacing the Englishman.

On Tuesday night, Aurier was one of many players in the firing line as Tottenham were thumped 7-2 by German giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Amid all the talk of a Christian Eriksen wanting to leave on the summer [The Telegraph], Waddle, whilst speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live, let rip at Aurier and the ‘shambles’ the club finds itself in.

“I don’t think Aurier wants to be here, he tried to get away in the summer,” Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live. “They wouldn’t sell him, they got rid of Trippier instead.

“They should have bought a right-back and said ‘if you want to leave, leave’. At Spurs, at the minute, there’s too much going on. Whether it be Eriksen or Alderweirld out of contract. So and so wants a new deal. Vertonghen wants a new deal. Is he signing? Or not? It’s just been a shambles.”

Tottenham fans will be grateful to know that Aurier won’t be playing on Saturday because he is serving a suspension following his sending off against Southampton last Saturday.

Therefore, it opens up the space for someone to fill that role, with the obvious candidate being youngster Kyle-Walker Peters because that is his natural position.

But Pochettino has played Davinson Sanchez there this season, whilst Juan Foyth deployed that role last term, and it’s a position that Eric Dier used to play during the early part of his Spurs career.
