Mark Warburton’s Glasgow Rangers are 19 points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table.

Chris Sutton has suggested to The Daily Record that Celtic should sign a top-quality midfielder in the January transfer window.

The former Celtic striker believes that manager Brendan Rodgers has earned the right to bring in a good player this month.

Sutton has also stated that this is the time to finish off Old Firm rivals Rangers.

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 58 points from 20 matches.

Rangers, who won automatic promotion from the Scottish Championship at the end of last season, are currently second in the standings.

Mark Warburton’s side, though, are as many as 19 points behind Celtic and have also played a game more.

“This is the time Celtic should finish Rangers now,” Sutton told The Daily Record. “If Brendan hasn’t earned the right to bring in a top-quality midfielder, there will never be a better time.”

Celtic have the strongest squad in Scotland, and the Bhoys should wrap up the Scottish Premiership title with ease this season.

It is hard to see any team challenge the Hoops for the league title during the 2017-18 campaign, and the Glasgow giants should be able to clinch it.

A second-placed finish in the league this season would not be a bad campaign for Rangers.
