Can Everton finish in the top six of the Premier League this season?

Everton manager Ronald Koeman at a press conference at Goodison Park on July 10, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Former Celtic and Chelsea striker Chris Sutton said on BT Sport Facebook live (August 19, 2017) that Everton will not finish in the top six of the Premier League this season.

Sutton said on BT Sport Facebook live (August 19, 2017) when asked if Everton can finish in the top six of the Championship this season: “I don’t think they can, no absolutely, because I think that Lukaku, he is such as a big miss for them.

“They are trying to get goals from other areas, Sigurdsson a big signing, I think they are a little bit short, lost the centre-forward.”

Head coach Ronald Koeman of Everton is seen during a preseason friendly match between FC Twente and Everton FC at Sportpark de Stockakker on July 19, 2017 in De Lutte, Netherlands.

Everton have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far and have signed a number of players.

Among the players that the Toffees have recruited so far this summer are forward Wayne Rooney, defender Michael Keane, goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, and attacking midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson.

The Toffees have also signed striker Sandro Ramirez, but will Rooney and the 22-year-old be able to combine to compensate for the loss of Romelu Lukaku, who joined Manchester United in the summer transfer window?

Chris Sutton of Celtic slips and kicks his penalty over the bar during The Tennents Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Dundee United at Hampden Park on May 28, 2005 in Glasgow, Scotland.

It will be interesting to see how Everton score goals and how many players chip in; the Toffees, though, do look very strong in midfield and in defence.

Finishing in the top six will also depend on how other clubs do. Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are the four strongest teams in the Premier League, meaning that Everton will have to fare than Arsenal or Liverpool this season in order to claim a top-six spot.
