Celtic are reportedly keen on Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien.
Pundit Chris Sutton has told the Daily Record that he has to question Celtic’s ambition is they won’t pay £8million for Toulouse defender Christopher Jullien.
Celtic are facing a major rebuild this summer, and Neil Lennon must look to re-tool the defence at Parkhead before the new season.
The Bhoys have seen Dedryck Boyata move on to Hertha Berlin on a free transfer, whilst loanee Filip Benkovic has returned to Leicester City.
That means Celtic need at least one new centre back, and the Daily Record recently noted that the Bhoys are interested in signing Toulouse star Jullien.
Jullien, 26, would allegedly cost £8million, but Celtic have yet to pay that price, and they even fear that the price may even go up this summer.
The Frenchman is a giant, dominant centre back who has impressed in France, but pundit Sutton doesn’t appear to be impressed with Celtic’s stance.
Sutton believes that £8million is ‘nothing’ at the highest level, and the fact that Celtic are ‘swaying’ about paying that price for Jullien is cause enough to question their ambition.
Sutton also pointed to Aston Villa’s £22million deal for striker Wesley earlier this month as a major show of their intentions after winning promotion to the Premier League, and thinks Celtic need to show they’re ready to spend.
“There’s been talk about Christopher Jullien from Toulouse and Celtic might be swaying about paying up to £8-10million. The reality is paying £8m is nothing at this level,” said Sutton. “Aston Villa have signed an striker who is a work in progress from Brugge for £22m. That’s the market now.”
“The big question is where are Celtic’s ambitions? Is the priority domestic dominance and going for nine and 10 in a row? Or is it the Champions League?” he added.
