Chris Sutton was left unimpressed with Celtic’s Champions League campaign.

Former Celtic player turned football pundit, Chris Sutton, says he is unimpressed with the Bhoy’s Champions League campaign this season.

Celtic finished third in Group B with 3 points behind Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. The Hoops, however, have qualified to the Europa League knockout stages.

While Celtic were placed in a tough group, Sutton claims that this season’s campaign has seen no progress from his former side. In fact, it can be argued that they have gone backwards.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers is seen during the UEFA Champions League group B match between Celtic FC and RSC Anderlecht at Celtic Park on December 5, 2017 in Glasgow, United Kingdom.

Sutton says that a lot of Celtic players haven’t turned up for the big occasion, and that it is this “culture of acceptance” that worries him.

He particularly points out Celtic’s home defeat against Anderlecht, saying losing against them at home is “not acceptable”.

One of the common arguments Celtic fans come up with and even Brendan Rodgers has touched upon it is that the Bhoys operate on a less budget as compared to big European clubs.

Sutton says that if the budget is the main reason behind this poor performance, Celtic should not bother turning up at the competition from next time.

He adds that instead of talking about how good the opposition are, Celtic players must take a look at themselves.

“There have been too many times when too many players simply haven’t turned up and the most worrying thing for me has been this culture of acceptance,” wrote Sutton in his column for the Daily Record.

“It’s not acceptable to lose at home to Anderlecht. It certainly wasn’t acceptable to lose fives and sevens to PSG. Don’t give me this b******s about budgets. I’m sick of hearing it. If it was just about the budgets then don’t bother turning up.

“The alarm bells were going off after PSG put seven past them and the players came out with this stuff about the French side being too good to live with. They shouldn’t be talking up the opposition – they should be looking at themselves.

“If you are going to simply put the hands up and say there’s no chance of competing, then what’s the point of being there in he first place? Just write to UEFA now and say we’ll take the £30m thanks but we’ll not bother playing in the games, thank you very much. It’s utter nonsense.”
