Chris Sutton believes Celtic could lose Brendan Rodgers if a Premier League club wanted him.

Chris Sutton has said on BT Sport that he reckons Brendan Rodgers could quit Celtic if an offer came from England.

The Northern Irish manager, who took control of Celtic in May 2016, has led them to back-to-back domestic trebles in what’s been a phenomenal couple of years.

But Rodgers is facing a difficult third season in charge, with Hearts six points ahead of them at the summit of the Scottish Premiership and a resurgent Rangers under Steven Gerrard potentially moving above them this afternoon.

The Hoops endured a difficult summer on the transfer front, missing out on John McGinn despite making four bids, and losing star striker Moussa Dembele to Lyon toward the end of the window.

The former Liverpool boss enjoyed moderate success at Anfield, prior to being sacked in 2015, and Celtic legend Sutton reckons that a Premier League club could tempt him back to England.

He told BT Sport: “It’s the first time I think he could have had his head turned in terms of a job coming up down South. Why? Because he’s been disgruntled with the transfer policy.

“There’s been noises coming out and I don’t think he’s happy. He seems aggravated. If an opportunity came from down South I think he may leave Celtic.”

Rodgers has often claimed that he wanted to lead Celtic to an unprecedented 10 Premiership titles in a row. They have currently won seven in succession – two of which have come during his tenure – but this season is far and away the biggest test of his reign and it’ll be interesting to see if a top job down South becomes available.
