The former Celtic striker believes that with regular first-team football during the 2020-21 campaign, the 21-year-old winger could explode.
Sutton wrote in The Daily Record: “I actually think Johnston is due to explode on to the scene and this could be his proper breakthrough year in terms of regular action.”
Stats
Johnston has been on the books of Celtic since 2008, and he is a very talented and promising young winger.
As stated on the Hoops’ official website, the Scotland Under-21 international has scored 11 goals in 49 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants so far in his career.
According to WhoScored, the 21-year-old made four starts and seven substitute appearances in the Scottish Premiership for Celtic this season, scoring two goals in the process.
The winger also scored one goal in two Europa League games, and one goal in two Scottish League Cup appearances, according to WhoScored.
Big season ahead
Johnston has a lot of potential, but the winger has had injury problems, and that has impeded him from establishing himself as a regular in the Celtic first team.
If the Scotsman is able to stay fit next season, then he could have a very good campaign on a personal level.
