Chris Sutton urges Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta to improve as they have not yet justified the fees West Ham United paid. David Moyes secured their transfers last summer.

The Irons paid £30.5m to sign Scamacca from Serie A side Sassuolo and broke their record spend for Paqueta. Lyon cashed in on the midfielder after West Ham tabled an offer worth £51m. The pair also signed £90k-a-week and £150k-a-week contracts to join the Hammers.

Moyes sealed deals for Scamacca and Paqueta among West Ham’s eight off-season raids. According to Sky Sports, the Irons’ activity came to a total cost of £179m with only Chelsea (£278.5m) and Manchester United (£227.5m) spending more. The Irons recouped just £15m.

And yet West Ham now rank 18th in the Premier League table after 19 fixtures having only won four games. They have also lost 12, the most by any club along with Leicester City and basement boys Southampton. Just Wolves (12) have scored fewer goals (15) this term, too.

So, West Ham will now host Everton this Saturday in a potential relegation six-pointer with the Toffees in 19th place. The Irons are also without a win in seven Premier League fixtures since beating AFC Bournemouth on October 24. They have lost six games over that stretch.

Sutton wants Scamacca and Paqueta to save Moyes from the sack at West Ham

Sutton fears the fees Moyes spent last summer are now counting against him as West Ham may sack the Scot. The Telegraph claims that London Stadium chiefs are considering short and long-term options to replace the 59-year-old in their hot seat if results do not improve.

So, the ex-Celtic striker urges Scamacca and Paqueta to step up and save Moyes from the sack at West Ham. He has started the Italy striker for 11 of his 16 outings for three goals so far. While the midfielder has opened 11 of his 12 appearances for one goal and two assists.

“Lads, do you want David Moyes sacked?” Sutton wrote in his column for the Daily Mail. “He spent £160m in the summer and that’s become a millstone around his neck. Gianluca Scamacca and Lucas Paqueta, I expect more. Same goes for you, Jarrod Bowen.

“Moyes needs you all to perform, more than ever. You have exceeded expectations in the last two years but you are better than 18th.”
