Rangers boss Graeme Murty has been busy in bringing new faces into Ibrox, whilst Brendan Rodgers has been more selective in his recruitment at Celtic.
Ex-Hoops ace Chris Sutton explained why Celtic should be aiming higher than Rangers during the transfer market, when writing his regular column for the Daily Record.
Celtic have continued their dominance on the domestic front this season, and currently sit comfortably at the top of the Scottish Premiership table, eight points clear of second placed Aberdeen, and a further three clear of Rangers.
Graeme Murty has already made huge strides in attempting to close the gap on the league leaders by bringing in a whole host of loan singings, including the likes of Jason Cummings, Sean Goss and Russell Martin.
Rodgers, meanwhile, has been relatively more subdued in the market, adding Lewis Morgan and Marvin Compper to his ranks.
Sutton wrote his regular column for the Daily Record, and explained why Rangers’ new signings would not even have been on Celtic’s radar:
“Sure Rodgers could go and pick up cast-offs, unwanted players and those stuck on the fringes at clubs. After all, that’s the market Murphy, Martin, Cummings, Goss and Naismith came from. For all they will improve Rangers and Hearts, they were unwanted at their clubs and deemed surplus to requirements. That’s not criticism, it’s fact.”
There are still 11 days remaining until the transfer window slams shut, so there is plenty of time for Rodgers to add further quality to his squad, if he so wishes.
Rangers, meanwhile, will still be looking to inject more quality into their setup, as they look to keep pace with their bitter rivals in the race for the title.
