Pundit Chris Sutton has Glasgow Evening Times that he thinks Brendan Rodgers made something of a mistake by not starting Celtic striker Moussa Dembele against Dundee.

Celtic picked up a narrow 1-0 league win over Dundee on Saturday afternoon, with midfielder Olivier Ntcham scoring a second half winning goal to give the Bhoys a somewhat unconvincing win.

Tonight, Celtic face a much sterner challenge, as they travel to Germany to take on Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in their third game of the Champions League group stage.

After a 5-0 defeat at home to Paris Saint-Germain and a 3-0 win away at Anderlecht, Celtic will be hoping for a surprise result at the Allianz Arena, but one player who may not feature is striker Moussa Dembele.

The French forward was a sensation last season, smashing 32 goals in all competitions whilst also impressing in the Champions League, with three goals in last season’s group stage.

This term though, the 21-year-old has started just three games in all competitions this season having struggled with injuries – and pundit Chris Sutton wanted to see him get some playing time against Dundee.

The Ex-Celtic striker has told the Glasgow Evening Times that the Bhoys missed Dembele against PSG as they didn’t have a focal point, and he offers a different threat to Leigh Griffiths in big Champions League games.

Sutton did though question Rodgers’ decision not to start Dembele against Dundee, as it would have given him a runout before facing Bayern, but with just a number of Under-21 games to call on, Griffiths is likely to get the nod.

“I thought that they missed Dembele against PSG in terms of someone to hit and getting up the pitch,” said Sutton. “But I don’t think he will start in Munich. He was important last year in European competition. It’s not a criticism of Leigh Griffiths but when the wingers were taken care of they didn’t have anyone to hit. I think he’s played a couple of Under-21 games. I was surprised he didn’t start on the weekend. With the amount of changes it might have been wise to give him a runout.

“I think Leigh will start but Celtic need to get up the pitch and that will be their biggest problem in Munich. You know, it’s not impossible for Celtic to get a result in Munich. But it is highly unlikely, which is purely down to the strength of the Bayern team,” he added.
