Celtic beat Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers 1-0 at Parkhead this afternoon.
Celtic have beaten Rangers 1-0 at Parkhead in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
Olivier Ntcham was the hero as his goal just after the hour mark was enough to give Celtic three points – and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard his first defeat with the Gers.
The Hoops, who lost star striker Moussa Dembele on Friday, looked to be the stronger side for much of the clash and it’s a deserved win for Brendan Rodgers’s side.
Rangers came into the clash on the back of a 1-1 draw with Ufa which helped them into the Europa League group stages – a game that saw them play with nine men for half-an-hour.
And were the Blues fortunate to keep all their players on the field this afternoon? According to Chris Sutton, yes.
Goalkeeper Allan McGregor appeared to kick out at Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer in the first half, and ex-Bhoys hitman Sutton reckons the Scottish keeper should’ve gone.
Gerrard’s side had been exceptional in the days and weeks leading up to this one, both in defence and attack, but for whatever reason they could not play to their full potential today and Rodgers deserves a lot of credit.
He is by far the more experienced manager, but it can and could still be a brilliant season for the Ibrox outfit.
