Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of winning silverware are over for at least another year after losing Sunday’s Carabao Cup final to Manchester City.

Spurs were beaten 1-0 at Wembley Stadium, as Aymeric Laporte buried a second half header from Kevin De Bruyne’s free kick.

It was always going to be a tough ask for interim boss Ryan Mason to beat Pep Guardiola, but Tottenham barely even laid a glove on City.

Unsurprisingly, much of the focus has been placed on Harry Kane, and whether this again proves that he needs to leave Spurs in order to win trophies.

This subject has been discussed to no end of late, as Kane still hasn’t won a trophy with Tottenham – and he had to watch a former teammate celebrate again on Sunday.

Kyle Walker chose to leave Tottenham in the summer of 2017, joining City in a bid to win silverware; Sunday’s win was his seventh major trophy as a City player, and an eighth is on the way in the Premier League title.

Pundit Chris Sutton has now told the Daily Mail that he thinks Kane may have been somewhat jealous of seeing Walker celebrate another trophy having decided to quit Spurs.

Sutton feels that this may be the time for Kane to leave, believing that he needs to do what Walker did in going elsewhere for silverware after a drab final display from Spurs.

“That’s seven major trophies for Kyle Walker since he left Tottenham. Another couple might follow this season, too,” said Sutton. “You wonder whether Harry Kane will realise it’s time to go and win some silverware, too.”

“Kane turns 28 in July. He watched City school Tottenham and his former team-mate Walker pick up another medal. If Kane is to leave the club he loves, you suspect this summer’s the time to do it,” he added.
