Scottish Champions Celtic were left humbled last night by a ruthless Barcelona side at the Nou Camp.

The Glasgow side lost 7-0 in their opening Champions League Group Stage game in what was a thoroughly one-sided game.

But the result should certainly be put into context to the performances of Celtic in the Champions League and Europa League last season under former manager Ronny Deila.

Knocked out of Champions League qualifying by Malmo and outplayed by Molde in the Europa League – just qualifying for the Champions League Group Stage deserves credit for Rodgers.

This was a point former Celtic striker Chris Sutton tried to make clear on Twitter this afternoon during a series of exchanges with his followers:

He also replied to a comment from famous Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, who suggested his Arsenal side were bad in a 1-1 draw with PSG, but not 7-0 bad.

To which Sutton replied:

The Uruguayan striker missed a number of gilt-edged chances for the French side last night as Arsenal escaped with a share of the spoils against the French side.

No doubt however that Celtic were painfully outplayed last night and they will be hoping for better when they welcome Barcelona to Parkhead.
