Odsonne Edouard was superb as Celtic clinched the Scottish Premiership title against their bitter rivals.

Chris Sutton has told the Daily Record that Odsonne Edouard proved him wrong with his performance during Celtic’s latest Old Firm victory, and suggested that signing the 20-year-old on a £7 million permanent deal would be a good piece of business from the Hoops.

Brendan Rodgers’ men wrapped up the Scottish Premiership title at a canter on Sunday. The Bhoys put five past Rangers and few could argue that it would not have been more had Jak Alnwick not made some wonderful saves and Celtic not knocked their game down a gear or two during the latter stages.

It was a performance that deserved to clinch their latest Scottish Premiership title, with Edouard proving to be a star of the show, scoring twice in the 5-0 win. And Sutton admitted that he was pleasantly surprised by the Frenchman’s display having previously suggested that he would have started Leigh Griffiths, while he also backed a permanent bid for the youngster this summer.

“Edouard proved me wrong but that Rangers defence made him look like Pele. He’s raw but has plenty of potential and if Celtic can get him for £7m it would be a good bit of business,” he told the Daily Record.

While Sutton suggested that paying £7 million to convert the striker’s loan into a permanent deal would be good business, it must be noted that Rodgers previously suggested, in comments reported by Herald Scotland back in March, that the clause to keep Edouard is not set at that amount.

The youngster is certainly proving to be an extremely bright talent, and his impact in his last two Old Firm appearances shows that he is not afraid to step up on the big occasion.

It was his goal that clinched the previous Ibrox meeting between the two sides at a time where many would have expected Rangers to be the most likely winners, and his brace on Sunday set the side on their way to the emphatic win.

Keeping him beyond this season therefore, is unlikely to be an unpopular decision amongst the Parkhead faithful – even if he does end up becoming one of the club’s most expensive signings.
