Chris Sutton has suggested in The Daily Record a weakness in Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers.
The former Celtic striker believes that Rodgers tries to improve each and every player to become a Champions League level footballer.
Sutton has also suggested that the former Liverpool and Swansea City boss needs to be less loyal to his players.
“If Brendan has a weakness it’s his trust and loyalty and belief and downright unwavering stubbornness that he can improve every player to become a Champions League level player,” Sutton wrote in The Daily Record.
“He’s been loyal but eventually the reality has to hit home and change must come in the centre half area for the good of the team, himself and everyone.”
Rodgers is a good manager and is a very good coach who enjoys making his players better.
Celtic have a good squad, and many of the players have actually improved working with Rodgers.
The Glasgow giants have a team good enough to win the Scottish Premiership with ease, but it is in the Champions League that they need to improve upon.
Sutton has also criticised Celtic defender Dedryck Boyata, stating that the 26-year-old former Manchester City man has a mistake in him at the highest level.
The Belgium international failed to play well during the Glasgow giants’ embarrassing defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League in Paris.
“You have to bring in better quality and the facts are Jozo Simunovic is promising but heavily injury prone and can’t be relied upon,” Sutton wrote in The Daily Record. “Dedryck Boyata always seems to have a mistake in him at that level.
“Nir Bitton I feel for as he’s stepped into a position and while domestically can do just about enough against the cream of the crop doesn’t have that real defensive instinct which is required when playing against players who are razor sharp in the mind.”
