Chris Sutton has backed the ‘unplayable’ Erling Haaland to score more goals for Manchester City than Darwin Nunez will for Liverpool, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Liverpool and Benfica have ‘reached an agreement’ to sign Nunez, with the deal possibly rising to £85 million, as reported by BBC Sport.

This is significantly more than what Manchester City paid for Haaland this summer, with the Premier League champions paying Borussia Dortmund £51 million, which activated his release clause, as reported by Sky Sports.

All in all, come the 2022/23 Premier League title race, it will make things a lot more interesting with more firepower added to both teams.

When former Premier League striker Sutton was asked to share his thoughts on the duo, this is what he had to say.

“It’s an interesting one with Haaland signing for Manchester City,” said Sutton. “I like him (Nunez), saw him in the Champions League.

“He’s a good centre-forward and good in the air. Liverpool may have lacked a central striker that’s good in the air. Finishes off well with both feet. Likes to come off that left-hand side. I think they have signed a really good player.

On who will score more Nunez or Haaland: “I think Haaland is the real deal. I think Nunez is good. But Haaland, he is unplayable.”

WHO WILL SCORE MORE GOALS NUNEZ OR HAALAND?

It’s going to be a great battle, for sure, and in truth, come the final few months of next season, both will probably be thriving in their respective colours.

Both Liverpool and Man City haven’t got much wrong in the transfer market of late and it will probably be the case here.

But, it will be interesting to see who departs because the Reds could lose Sadio Mane, which would be a bitter blow.

Whilst there is talk that Raheem Sterling could also leave the Etihad, with no agreement reached yet on his new contract.
