Chris Sutton slams Manuel Pellegrini’s ‘nonsense’ comment, comments on Mario Husillos

West Ham United have endured a dismal start under Manuel Pellegrini.

Pundit Chris Sutton has told The Daily Mail that he thinks West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini needs to take responsibility for the club’s poor start to the season.

The Hammers moved to appoint Pellegrini as a replacement for David Moyes this summer, in the hope that the veteran boss would finally bring some stability to the London Stadium.

With a Premier League title win already on his CV with Manchester City, Pellegrini has been successful in England before, and he was equipped with more than £!00million worth of new signings as the likes of Issa Diop, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson all arrived.

However, West Ham have endured a dismal start to life under Pellegrini, losing all four of their Premier League games, whilst their only competitive win – over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup – wasn’t convincing either.

Pellegrini now has the international break to try and turn things around with the Hammers, and fans will be expecting a big improvement when West Ham meet Everton in just over a week.

The Chilean has though placed some blame with former manager David Moyes, claiming that his West Ham side are still affected by battling relegation last season, even after signing 10 new players.

Now, pundit Chris Sutton has told The Daily Mail that he thinks Pellegrini is talking ‘nonsense’ by referring to last season’s battle, claiming that he must shoulder some responsibility – especially having brought in Mario Husillos as director of football, with Sutton hinting as being unimpressed with his work in the transfer market so far.

“I found it staggering to hear Manuel Pellegrini say that West Ham are still affected by last season’s relegation battle. It’s nonsense,” said Sutton. “Seven of the team who started Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat by Wolves were signed by Pellegrini, Andriy Yarmolenko — another new signing — came off the bench while winger Robert Snodgrass spent the last campaign on loan at Aston Villa in the Championship. Rather than laying the blame at David Moyes’s door, Pellegrini needs to take some responsibility.”

“He brought in Mario Husillos as his director of football and the owners allowed him to spend close to £100million. The simple fact is that performances have not been good enough,” he added.
