Celtic are attempting to bring Patrick Roberts back to Glasgow.
Pundit Chris Sutton has told BT Sport that he has been informed that Manchester City winger Patrick Roberts will be re-signing for Celtic, potentially before 11pm tonight.
The Bhoys have added the likes of Olivier Ntcham, Kundai Benyu and Jonny Hayes this summer, but Brendan Rodgers remains in the market for new signings – and has a deadline in mind.
Patrick Roberts
Celtic have until 11pm tonight to register new signings ahead of the Champions League play-off clash with Astana, and the focus has been placed firmly on bringing Patrick Roberts back to Celtic Park.
The Bhoys took Roberts on loan from Manchester City in January 2016, after the young wide man had struggled for first-team football at the Etihad Stadium in the few months following his move from Fulham.
With Celtic though, Roberts has thrived; after hitting six goals in 13 games under Ronny Deila, Roberts played a starring role for Celtic last season, notching 11 goals in 47 games as the Bhoys claimed an unbeaten domestic treble.
Roberts did though return to Manchester City this summer, and had been given a chance to impress manager Pep Guardiola over the course of pre-season, though Celtic have been hopeful of a loan return for the 20-year-old.
Celtic’s target has been to get Roberts back to Celtic Park in time to face Astana – and pundit Chris Sutton claims that Rodgers could be on the verge of landing his man, despite the fact that Roberts was with the Manchester City squad for a friendly against Girona today.

Sutton has told BT Sport that he has it ‘on good authority’ that Roberts will be signing for Celtic, and it’s now just a matter of dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s on his return, with the pundit claiming that he is a ‘stunning’ signing for the Bhoys if it does, as expected, come off.
“I’ve had it on good authority that Patrick Roberts will sign for Celtic,” said Sutton. “100%, the player wants to come, it’s just dotting the i’s and crossing the t’s, so that would be huge news for Celtic. He was such a key player for Celtic the longer the season went on, and he would be a game-changer for Celtic – especially at Champions League level, where they just maybe lack a little bit of creativity. He would be a stunning signing and really kick this Celtic team on,” he added.
