Boli Bolingoli has reportedly taken a ‘step closer’ to leaving Celtic.
According to The Record, Roma have expressed an interest in signing the Belgian left-back, who joined the Hoops for £3 million last summer.
The report adds that Celtic are expecting a bid for the 25-year-old who incurred the wrath of Neil Lennon and fans of the Parkhead club last month.
Bolingoli controversially flew to Spain against quarantine rules and later wound up receiving a three-match ban, with the Bhoys’ next two games being postponed because of it.
Even without that incident, the former Rapid Vienna defender had hardly been a roaring success in Glasgow.
Last season, Bolingoli managed only 14 Premiership appearances and appeared out of the picture from the beginning of 2020 onward, failing to even make squads on a regular basis.
So the fact that a European outfit like Roma are reportedly interested is a tad surprising – and here’s how Chris Sutton reacted to the speculation on Twitter:
Despite not being a hugely important player, Celtic will definitely need to replace him, if he goes, and they have been linked with Leeds United’s Barry Douglas, with Greg Taylor the only other experienced left-back at the club right now.
