Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that he believes Rangers have missed their biggest chance to strike a blow against Celtic in the title race.

Rangers are just two points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, with Steven Gerrard’s side recovering their form over the past fortnight.

Celtic are also in strong form, demonstrated by their important Europa League win over RB Leipzig a week ago.

They have sorted out their defensive problems and are looking strong.

Sutton told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Monday Night Club that he is impressed with Rangers’ efforts, but he believes Celtic will be too strong.

He said: “Celtic are coming into form, albeit they slipped up at weekend on a plastic pitch.

“Clubs have missed a trick, Celtic had such a slow start and are now clicking into gear, honestly I think Celtic will go strength to strength.

There was opportunity for Rangers to be clear at top at this stage.”

In another season perhaps that would have been a realistic goal for Rangers, but they have had a lot of work this summer to repair the damage done last season.

The gap is only two points and Rangers’ squad looks strong, with the majority of their summer signings making a positive impact.

Sutton believes the title is certainly heading back to Celtic, Rangers fans will not be so sure.
