Chris Sutton has claimed that John Lundstram was ’embarrassing’ himself for some of the tackles he was making for Rangers against Celtic at Hampden on Sunday, as he told Premier Sport.

After a pulsating afternoon of football, which went to extra-time, it was Rangers singing loudest when they beat their bitter rivals 2-1 to reach the Scottish Cup final.

In the second half of normal time, Lundstram took his counterpart, Callum McGregor, out following a rash tackle, with the on-field referee awarding a free-kick, but no yellow card for the player.

It was an obvious foul from the 28-year-old because he didn’t argue Bobby Madden’s on-field call.

Although, during Sutton’s commentary stint, alongside ex-Rangers man Kevin Thomson, the former midfielder admitted that he ‘got away with that one’.

Nonetheless, this is what Sutton had to say about it all.

“I just think he’s just embarrassing himself,” said Sutton.

Kevin Thomson then added: “He has got away with that one, that’s for sure.”

Sutton responded: “How many times have you said that this afternoon?”

In the end, Lundstram was hooked off in the first half of extra time, with the player not being booked, but praised for his performance.

His Rangers teammates did the job, and despite being taken to extra time on Thursday night when they beat Braga in the Europa League, Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s players were the ones showcasing the energy towards the end.

Van Bronckhorst hasn’t been in the Ibrox hot seat for that long, after replacing Steven Gerrard in November.

During that period, the Dutchman has had mixed results, but this one perhaps tops off the lot, so far.
