Chris Sutton thinks Tottenham Hotspur transfer target, James Maddison, is the best performing number ten in the Premier League as of this season, as he told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport.

The former striker added that Maddison has been ‘really excellent’ for an abject Leicester City side that are sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table.

That was proven by their recent results, including Brendan Rodgers watching his side getting slapped 6-2 at the hands of Tottenham before the international break, with Maddison scoring an outstanding goal.

Despite those struggles from the Foxes, their shining light has been Maddison, not just this season, but throughout a morale-sapped 2022 for the Midlands club.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals and assisted one in his six games, after scoring seven and assisting five from January until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

The front-foot midfielder is showcasing his worth and Sutton thinks, as things stand, he’s the best performing number ten in the country.

“Talking about players in form, now Leicester have had a really poor start to the season,” said Sutton. “But James Maddison has been really excellent in a Leicester jersey.

“I know there have been issues with Gareth Southgate and James Maddison in the past. But you are talking about players in form, name a better number ten than James Maddison in the Premier League this season?”

TOTTENHAM LINKED WITH MADDISON

Tottenham have been long-term admirers of Maddison, and to nobody’s surprise, they are still keen on signing the England hopeful – he has two years left on his current contract at the King Power Stadium.

At the rate Leicester are going at, they might probably struggle to maintain Maddison’s services during the January transfer window.

If his form continues, regardless of Leicester’s position, then those interested parties might just come hunting for the player’s signature.

And in truth, not only is Maddison worthy of playing for a team in Europe right now, but he should also be donning England colours.
