Chris Sutton says Brendan Rodgers should be backed with funds in January.

Former Celtic player turned football pundit, Chris Sutton says that Brendan Rodgers should be backed with funds in the January transfer window.
Sutton criticized Celtic players for their poor performance in Europe this season, saying some of the players didn’t turn up for the big occasion.
Brendan Rodgers also said recently that players need to prove themselves at a big club like Celtic, and Sutton believes that it could be a message to the Celtic board.
Celtic finished third in their group that also featured Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. However, they did qualify for the Europa League.

Sutton says that Europa League might be a consolation competition, but there are some serious teams there and it won’t be easy for Celtic to win it.
It is therefore important to back Rodgers with funds and help him plan out a stable future for the club.
Sutton adds that the January transfer window will be key for Rodgers, as he will need the tools to compete.

“I just wonder if Brendan’s comments about the players needing to prove they are at the level was a message to his board,” wrote Sutton in his column for the Daily Record.
“He needs backing in January because the Europa League might be a consolation competition but there are some serious sides in there. That’s where we will learn a lot about Rodgers and how he sees the future panning out.
“People suggesting they can go all the way and win it are having a laugh. January will be a big money for Brendan as he needs the tools to compete but his players need the belief – because these are the games which define your Celtic career.”
