Southampton and West Bromwich Albion have been linked with Celtic’s Stuart Armstrong in the summer transfer window.

Chris Sutton has suggested in The Daily Record that Celtic should not sell Stuart Armstrong in the summer transfer window.

Armstrong has been linked with moves away from Celtic in the summer transfer window, with clubs in the Premier League claimed to be interested.

According to The Scottish Sun, Southampton and Brighton and Hove Albion want the 25-year-old midfielder, while The Birmingham Mail has credited West Bromwich Albion with interest in the former Dundee United star.

The Scotland international has been on the books of Celtic since February 2015 and has a contract with the Hoops until the end of the 2017-18 season, according to Transfermarkt.co.uk.

Former Celtic striker Sutton, who now works as a pundit for BBC Sport and BT Sport, has suggested that the Glasgow giants should not sell Armstrong in the summer transfer window.

Sutton believes that the Scotsman has a lot to offer to Brendan Rodgers’s side in the Champions League qualifiers.

“Celtic should be reflecting on a job well done against Linfield,” Sutton wrote in The Daily Record. “I didn’t think they would be much of an obstacle and that proved to be the case. A lot of people are reading into Stuart Armstrong being on the bench.

“And while I’m not sure Brendan Rodgers would need to send out any kind of message because of the contract issue, there must have been some thoughts in the back of his mind that he might need to prepare for life after the midfielder.

“Something’s wrong when the deal has gone unsigned for so long so it made sense to get Olivier Ntcham valuable game time.

“Ntcham looked the part but I would still like to see Armstrong sticking around. Celtic still need him, especially in these European qualifiers.”
