Chris Sutton believes that Ross Turnbull joining Celtic could offset a departure for Olivier Ntcham.

According to a report in  90min in August, a number of Premier League clubs are interested in signing the Hoops midfielder this summer.

Ntcham only joined Celtic for £4.5 million three years ago but the Frenchman is regularly being linked with a move away from Parkhead.

And with Neil Lennon signing Turnbull from Motherwell last week, Sutton has told The Record podcast that he believes it could lead to the Bhoys offloading Ntcham.

He said: “Does it mean that it’s the end for Olivier Ntcham? I think it does. It looks like Turnbull’s come in, Ntcham will possibly be the one who is sold and let go.

“I know Ntcham’s come in for a bit of criticism at the start of the season. I don’t think Neil Lennon necessarily helped by speaking about players wanting away and supporters assuming that Ntcham is one of those players. But I think Ntcham is a really good footballer.”

If Turnbull is Ntcham’s replacement, it could be a terrible mistake by Celtic.

That’s because not only is Turnbull unproven at a massive club, but injury restricted him to only two Premiership appearances last season.

He’s clearly a good player, and 15 league goals during the 2018-19 campaign proves as much, but it remains to be seen if he’s completely over the injury problem that scuppered his move to Paradise 13 months ago.

Celtic are going for 10-in-a-row this season and there’s really no margin for error.

Winning titles is a squad game and Lennon’s squad is so much better and safer with Ntcham and Turnbull in it.
