Villa are in the process of appointing a new manager.

Chris Sutton has told BBC Radio 5 Live that the appointment of Thierry Henry and John Terry at Aston Villa would provide the Championship club with the same revitalising effect that Steven Gerrard has had at Rangers.

Villa are on the lookout for a new manager after sacking Steve Bruce and Belgium assistant Henry remains favourite to take over, with Terry being touted as his assistant at Villa Park.

Bruce left Villa after fans grew frustrated with his inability to play players in their correct position, as well as his tendency to take a cautious-first approach. It has left a bad taste in the mouth, just months after reaching the play-off final.

Enthusiasm needs to be lifted, and appointing Premier League legend Henry would certainly do that – just like appointing Gerrard at Rangers has done. Former Villa striker Sutton believes Henry and Terry would be ideal for the club.

“If I was a Villa player at this moment and Henry and Terry were coming in as a pair, I would be extremely excited,” Sutton said. “You’ve got Frank Lampard there now and [Marcelo] Bielsa. Henry and Terry at Villa would be box office.

“They will inspire a dressing room. I look at Steven Gerrard at Rangers. Was I convinced that was the right job for him? No, but he has got a feel good factor, he has revitalised the feeling and Villa will be hoping for the same sort of impact.”

Since taking over at Ibrox, Gerrard has lost just two of his 20 league and cup encounters, guiding the Gers to the Europa League group stages. The effect of a big name has well and truly gone before his lack of experience.

Villa are being linked with a whole host of names, including the likes of Dean Smith, Rui Faria, Roberto Martinez, Brendan Rodgers and even former players Stiliyan Petrov and Dwight Yorke are said to have applied.
