Rangers director of football Mark Allen is in the firing line.

Rangers’ search for a replacement for Pedro Caixinha has taken far longer than it should have.
This week it seemed they were finally going to get their man, but when top target Derek McInnes turned down the chance to take the Ibrox gig it left Rangers back at square one.
Rangers have come in for heavy criticism, and pundit Chris Sutton has called out director of football Mark Allen.

Sutton told The Scottish Sun: “The director of football Mark Allen. He wasn’t in the process when Pedro was given the job, but what has he actually done?
“He has done absolutely nothing. When he came I read a quote from him ‘To be successful in the Scottish Premier League and at Rangers in particular you need to be organised, you need to be ruthless and you need to be relentless’, has he been? have Rangers been?
“There is a lack of leadership. It has been rudderless. It is pin the tail on the donkey stuff.”

Rangers’ failure to land their man goes higher than Allen, but his silence has been notable.
Having the director of football communicate with the fanbase would have been helpful to explain what is going on, and perhaps he even could have been given greater say in the search.
A big part of Allen’s job at Rangers is recruiting players and identifying targets to sign in January.
That becomes a lot harder to get right without a permanent manager in place.
