Bhoys boss Rodgers has signed up until 2021 at Celtic Park.
Chris Sutton [second left] celebrates
Chris Sutton has responded to Talksport’s latest dig after Brendan Rodgers signed a new four-year deal with Celtic on Friday.
Sutton has had a number of run-ins with the station and its drive time host Adrian Durham of late, regarding the current state of Scottish football.
And in a Tweet perhaps sent with the former Celtic striker in mind, Durham asked: “By signing a new 4 year contract at Celtic, has Brendan Rodgers effectively retired from top level football?”
Never one to bite his lip, Sutton quoted the tweet and commented: This is pathetic…. once again”.
Rodgers helped to deliver unbeaten Celtic’s sixth straight Premiership title in his first season in charge on Sunday, having previously led the Bhoys to the Champions League group stage for the first time in two years.
And the Ulsterman’ name has perhaps unsurprisingly been discussed by some as a possible successor to Arsene Wenger at Arsenal.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers celebrates with his players after their latest title win
Friday’s development, however, suggests that Rodgers, who managed Watford, Reading, Swansea City and Liverpool before taking the reins at Celtic Park, won’t be leaving Glasgow any time soon.
Does the Celtic boss still have a future in English football?
